What we do:

  • We care for orphaned & vulnerable children in our community. Approximately 230 orphans orphaned & vulnerable children come to the centre daily after school as well as throughout the school holidays, ranging in age from 2 - 21 years. A further 100 are still at home i.e. 0-4yrs old, but on our books for care/supervision by regular house visits from our Carers. They come from child headed households or live with a gogo
  • We run a Pre-school for financial sustainability, which is open to community children from 3 to 5 years who pay R120 per month
  • Provide lunch, homework supervision, and extra-mural activities such as dance, computer lessons, soccer & art Monday to Friday???
  • Weekly reading programme for grade 2 & 3 learners where local women give an hour every Wednesday to teach reading in English
  • We have a well-resourced computer room from where we run a two week computer course for school leavers from the community, Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm
  • The centre has well-equipped kitchen which includes a wood-fired oven where we bake bread and sell to the community as part of our sustainability programme. An electric stove was donated by Ashton College which we use to prepare hot meals, bake and sell muffins as part of our sustainabilty programme. We have a well-kept vegetable garden & 2 jojo tanks to save water
